Active Lane Keeping with Adaptive Cruise Control

Active Lane Keeping combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping functionality on major inter-urban roads and motorways.

The system follows the queue of traffic ahead and lane markings, within the limits of the system, and keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane by continuous steering adjustments – even in congested conditions. The benefit? Appreciable stress relief and greater comfort on long journeys.

The driver receives an additional Assist screen in the instrument cluster. Up to three lanes are displayed, which show the objects next to the vehicle (truck, car and motorcycle) in a 3D environment and the course of the route.

Traffic sign recognition uses a camera and navigation data to detect speed limits, ‘no overtaking’ zones (start and end) and infer local traffic codes (from boundary signs). Information is displayed in the instrument cluster.

The Intersection Assist warns the driver if they fail to notice oncoming or crossing vehicles when at a junction.
This warning involves three stages. In the first stage, Intersection Assist informs the driver of crossing or oncoming vehicles in a representation of the junction displayed in the instrument cluster and in the display of the PCM on request. If the system detects a critical situation, it issues a second-stage, visual warning in the instrument cluster and in the optional Head-Up Display, if applicable, before a potential collision. If the driver does not respond to the warning, the third stage triggers a brake jolt to alert the driver to the critical situation.

The Emergency Stop function brings the vehicle to a halt (subject to system limitations) if the driver fails to respond (e.g. due to health reasons).
If the vehicle detects an absence of driver activity, it uses visual and audible warnings, a brief tightening of the seatbelt and if necessary a jolt of the brakes to attempt to prompt the driver to resume control of the vehicle. Should this be unsuccessful, after a moderate delay the vehicle will come to a halt in the lane, activate the hazard warning lights and trigger a call to the emergency services.

Note: The functions are subject to system limitations. The driver must monitor driving style at all times and intervene in cases of doubt. The system can be overridden at any time
